Tell us who you are.
I'm Brian, owner of Huey's Mobile. I'm a mobile mechanic based out of Monroe, North Carolina, which means I bring the shop to you. Brakes, batteries, diagnostics, alternators, and oil changes. I do it all in your driveway or where you work, so you don't lose a whole day sitting in a shop or a waiting room. Honest work, fair prices, and I treat everybody's car like it's my own. That's Huey's Mobile.
So what does Brian do differently from everybody else?
Well, first and foremost, I'm honest about what your car actually needs. I came from a shop that pushed ticket averages and sales, and I left because of it. If you don't need it, I'm not selling it to you. I'd rather tell you the truth and earn a customer for life than squeeze an extra dollar out of one visit for one service. And when you call Huey's Mobile, you get me. Not a call center, not whoever's on shift that day. I show up, I do the work, and I explain it to you straight.
What do you wish every customer knew?
Well, the biggest question is that I wish every customer would know that it's okay to ask questions and get a second opinion when something feels off. A good mechanic will show you what's wrong, explain it in plain words, and won't get annoyed when you ask questions or stand over him. If somebody's pressuring you to decide right now or they can't explain why you need something, walk away. And remember, the cheapest price isn't always the best deal. …

Most cars must pass an annual safety inspection before registration renewal, and it must be done within 90 days of renewal. Cars registered in 19 counties also need an emissions inspection at the same time. State laws passed in 2023 and 2026 will end emissions testing in all 19 counties, but the change takes effect only after EPA approval, which was still pending in October 2026. Details are on the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles and NC Department of Environmental Quality site. A repair shop must give a written estimate before starting work that will cost more than $350, unless the customer waives it in writing. The estimate form lets the customer ask for replaced parts to be saved or returned. Read the rule.
Summers here bring about 55 days at 90°F or hotter. That is enough to finish off a tired battery or a weak AC compressor, so get both checked in spring rather than on the first hot day.
Lows drop to freezing on about 69 nights a year. Cold is when a weak battery finally fails, because a cold engine takes more power to turn over.
About 48 inches of rain fall in a year. Worn tires lose grip on wet roads well before they look bald, and streaky wipers are a cheap fix worth doing before the wet season, not during it.
The average commute in Monroe is 30 minutes each way, and 75% of workers drive there alone. Long commutes add miles fast, so oil changes and brakes come due sooner than the calendar says.

North Carolina requires inspections, but a passed sticker only means the car met the minimum on that day. It says nothing about the transmission, the frame or a leak that starts next month.

Some work needs a shop. Transmission swaps, engine rebuilds, alignments and anything that needs a lift go to a garage. Bad weather can push back a driveway job, and you need a safe, legal place to park where the mechanic can work. Many mobile mechanics also run a shop, or will tell you up front when a job needs one.
Get a written estimate that lists parts and labor. Call two or three shops with the same estimate and ask each for a total price. Ask what warranty comes with the parts and the work. Read recent reviews, not just the star score. A shop that explains the problem clearly and shows you the old part is a good sign.
