How Listings Are Ordered

On a city page, listings are sorted by these rules, in this order.

  1. Supercanic locations. If Supercanic has a shop in that city, it shows first in its own section marked Supercanic Official.
  2. Claimed listings. Pages the owner has claimed come next. Claiming is free, so any shop can do it.
  3. Mechanics who come to you. Mobile mechanics show before shops. Mobile repair is what MechanicRank was built for.
  4. Star rating. A higher rating ranks higher.
  5. Review count. When two ratings tie, the one with more reviews goes first.

Category pages, like mobile mechanics in one city, use the same rules without the claimed step. The Top Rated row on the homepage leaves Supercanic out and needs at least 5 reviews. Shops with a photo go first, then rating and review count decide. Some city pages also name a short list of top shops. To make that list a shop needs at least 4.3 stars from 15 or more reviews.

Star ratings and review counts are public numbers, shown as they are. We do not write reviews, buy them, or remove a bad one because a shop asked.

No Shop Pays to Rank

No shop pays to be listed. No shop pays to rank higher. There is no sponsored placement anywhere on MechanicRank. Badges cannot be bought either.

Why Supercanic Locations Are Featured

Supercanic runs MechanicRank. That is why 3 Supercanic locations are featured on the homepage, and why a Supercanic shop is listed first on city and category pages where it has one. We would rather say so plainly. Every one of them is marked Supercanic Official, so you always know when you are looking at one of ours.

What the Verified Badge Means

A claimed page means the owner confirmed they run the business. A Verified badge means they did more than that. They passed our qualification review, gave us a license number, or hold a Mechanic Rank Certification. Supercanic locations carry the badge too.

What MRC Certification Is

Mechanic Rank Certification (MRC) is our own exam program for mechanics. There are 13 tracks, from brakes to diagnostics to diesel. Each exam is scored and graded from Apprentice up to Master Mechanic. Every certificate has a public verify page, so a driver can check it in one click. Read about MRC or verify a certificate.

How to Claim Your Listing Free

Start at the claim page and find your business. Claiming is free. Once it is yours you can fix the phone number, hours and services and add your logo. If your business is not listed yet, add it free.

How Repair Cost Guides Are Estimated

Each repair cost guide starts with a range for parts and a range for labor time. We multiply the labor time by typical independent shop labor rates, about $95 to $140 an hour across the country, and adjust for your state and your kind of vehicle. The result is a range for planning, not a quote. Your shop will price your car after looking at it.

Who We Send When You Book Through Us

When you request a mechanic through MechanicRank and we send someone, we only send ASE certified technicians who are licensed with the state. The directory itself lists many more businesses than that, so check the badges on each listing when you call a shop on your own.

Who Runs MechanicRank

MechanicRank is run by Supercanic LLC. Alaina Limpert and Anthony Limpert built Supercanic from scratch. Alaina owns Supercanic. Anthony is an ASE Master Automobile Technician who leads the technicians at the Supercanic shop in San Jacinto, CA. He built Shop Desk, our shop software, inside that shop.

Our sister sites are Supercanic for auto repair and mobile mechanics, PPI Auto for used car inspections, and Shop Desk for shops.

How to Report a Wrong Listing

Email claims@mechanicrank.com or call (866) 948-1670. Tell us the business name and what is wrong, like a closed shop, a bad phone number or a page that is not yours. We will fix it. If you own the business, claim it and fix it yourself.

Where do the repair cost numbers come from?

Each guide starts with a range for parts and a range for labor time. We multiply the labor time by typical independent shop labor rates, about $95 to $140 an hour across the country, and adjust for your state and your kind of vehicle. They are estimates for planning, not quotes.

Are the mechanics you send ASE certified?
