How it started
Auto repair runs in our family’s blood. Reyes’ Automotive Service LLC was started right here in Delano back in 1972. I grew up around the shop at 315 High Street, learning hands-on under the hood from family mentors—working on everything from local farm trucks and daily drivers to custom muscle cars. Over 50 years later, we’re still right here in Delano keeping that same family legacy alive.
The job the phone rings for
State smog checks and CARB diesel compliance scans are definitely our most frequent calls, alongside routine brakes and diagnostics.
Standard CA Smog Checks: $80.00 out-the-door for 2000 & newer passenger cars (or $70.00 OTD when customers take advantage of our $10-off social check-in promo!). Older 1990s models run $110.00 OTD, light diesels $90.00 OTD, and RVs $120.00 OTD.
CARB Heavy-Duty Diesel Clean Truck Checks (2013+): Standard in-shop scans are $110.00, or $55–$85 per truck for on-site mobile fleet testing at local ranches and yards.
Brake Jobs: Typically $180 to $350 depending on whether it’s just pads or full rotors and calipers.
What people get wrong
People think is expensive but isn't: A Check Engine light or a noisy exhaust leak. Often, a check engine light is just a simple sensor replacement, and with our in-house hydraulic pipe bender, we can repair or fabricate a specific exhaust pipe section for a fraction of what replacing an entire system costs.
People think is cheap but isn't: 'Just a quick brake pad swap.' People expect a $50 fix, but if you ignore worn pads until they cut into the rotors, you ruin the calipers and turn a simple maintenance item into a major safety issue.
The one worth talking about
On the commercial side, we brought a local ag grower's heavy-duty diesel work truck back into full state compliance through our CARB Clean Truck testing after another shop told them it couldn't be cleared.
What is on the van
In our bay, we have an in-house hydraulic pipe bender that lets us fabricate custom exhaust systems, dual conversions, and pipe fits on the spot. For commercial fleets, we carry Mobile CARB OBD Diagnostic Scanners that allow us to drive directly out to farms, ranches, and fleet yards across Kern County to test 3+ heavy-duty diesel trucks right on-site without the owner losing driver hours driving to Bakersfield!
The thing everyone skips
Fluid flushes—especially coolant, brake fluid, and regular oil changes. People delay a simple fluid flush, but old coolant breaks down, corrodes the radiator, and warps engine heads or blows head gaskets. Spending a little on routine maintenance saves thousands in engine repairs down the road.

Before you hire anyone
Check that they are a licensed station with the State of California, make sure they have a long-standing physical presence in the community, ensure they offer a warranty on labor, and insist on a written free estimate before they touch your car.
