Who They Are
Muller Auto LLC is run by Daniel Muller out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The shop covers all of Fort Wayne and most of the surrounding area. When you call, an advisor answers and greets you, takes down your concern, and recommends whether you need a diagnostic or can go straight to a repair.
How Daniel Got Into This
Daniel started doing small repairs as a teenager. He got an apprenticeship at a dealership and earned an associates degree in automotive technology. That turned into a job as a technician, and he kept growing from there.
Along the way he always took on side work. He found he could really help people that way. As the side work grew he made it official with an LLC, got insurance, and took marketing classes and seminars to learn the business side. Muller Auto has kept scaling since, adding trucks and technicians as they find people they can stand behind.
What They Get Called For Most
No start diagnostics and electrical diagnostics are the bread and butter at Muller Auto. Cost varies depending on what the repair ends up being, but the diagnostic itself for a no start is $135.
Why A Brake Job Takes 1.5 Hours
Some customers think a brake job should be quick and cheap. Daniel hears it often, that they figure it is just pads off and pads on. That is not how Muller Auto does it.
The caliper bracket and rotor come off, which can be a fight on an older car. All the mating surfaces get cleaned, including hub to rotor. The guide pins get cleaned and lubricated. Any clips get replaced, and corrosion and brake dust built up behind them gets removed. After the job, the vehicle gets driven in a specific way to help break in the pads to the rotors. That is why the shop quotes 1.5 hours for the job.
A Repair Daniel Is Proud Of
A Subaru came in showing symptoms that looked like a worn valve body. A dealership master tech had already pointed to the valve body as the cause. Daniel and his team ran a disciplined diagnostic process instead and found the real culprit was the TCM, not the valve body.
What's On The Truck
Oxyacetylene is a big one for Muller Auto. It can turn a solid piece of metal into a pile of fluid when needed. The trucks also carry top of the line scan tools for viewing live data and performing module reprogramming, plus a welder for making custom tools on the fly and helping with bolt extractions. Presses, generators, and compressors round out the equipment.
Daniel also flags oil changes and differential, transfer case, and transmission services as maintenance items people tend to skip.
A Favorite Job
Ask Daniel about his favorite car and he brings up a 69 Chevrolet Corvette. The car itself was cool, but he says the owners were cooler. It was an older couple, and the wife was the original owner. She had kept the car maintained well enough that it could have been sitting in a museum.
